NASHVILLE, Tennessee – (May 7, 2012) – A vibrant glimmer of color and hope filtered throughout Music City last Thursday night (5/3) during the 4^th Annual Pink Trash Ball, presented by Women Rock For The Cure™ (WRFTC). Survivors, supporters and more packed downtown Nashville’s Mercy Lounge for the fuchsia-themed fundraiser, which featured a designer fashion show and high-energy live music … all to bring awareness to breast cancer. The energetic and charitable crowd donated over $6,000 to WRFTC’s initiatives.

Betsey Johnson Nashville kicked off the event with several survivors and other models strutting down the cat

walk. Dancing soon ensued as Superstar Tiffany performed “I Saw Him Standing There,” “Could’ve Been” and her legendary hit “I Think We’re Alone Now.” Through a pink haze,The Voice’s Brian Fuente, Nashville pop-rock firestarters Baby Daggers, Indie rock band Black Market Research and Jason Aldean touring partner DeeJay Silver all took the stage, keeping the party – and WRFTC’s signature pink cocktails – flowing well into the night. Based on the fabulousness and creativity of their pink-tastic attire, the Pink Trash Ball king and queen were crowned.

ABC’s Good Morning America co-anchor Robin Roberts, herself a breast cancer survivor, was on hand as a special guest announcer and introduced the Women Rock For The Cure™ Honorary Survivor of the Year Yolanda Smith. Opry member Martina McBride flipped the switch, turning the Opry’s signature barn backdrop “pink” in support of breast cancer awareness. McBride’s current single, “I’m Gonna Love You Through It,” offers hope to those affected by cancer, and the powerful song is included on her Republic Nashville album, Eleven, released Oct. 11. ABC’s Good Morning America co-anchor Robin Roberts, herself a breast cancer survivor, will be on hand as a special guest announcer for a portion of the night’s first show, introducing acts as well as the Women Rock For The Cure™ Honorary Survivor of the Year Yolanda Smith. Opry member Martina McBride will take the stage to “flip the switch,” turning the Opry’s signature barn backdrop pink in support of breast cancer awareness. Helping to ease the transition from summer to fall, the hot pink-themed event will serve as a fundraiser for – and bring awareness to – breast cancer initiatives. WRFTC Hopes To Connect Young Women Surviving & Fighting Breast Cancer
Nashville, TN – (June 2, 2011) – Women Rock For The Cure TM (WRFTC)is proud to announce the inaugural Young Survivors Retreat for women between the ages of 18-40 years who have been diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Five percent of all breast cancers diagnosed in the U.S. each year occur in women under 40. Since breast cancer at this early age is rare, this makes a diagnosis especially shocking and challenging for young women. At a time in life when all of your friends are starting families and launching their careers, issues of treatment, recovery and survivorship suddenly take top priority in your world. Finding peers that you can relate to helps in the healing process.

“When I was diagnosed at 27, it was very difficult to find someone to talk to who was my age and had gone through the same thing,” shares WRFTC Co-President Jensen (Sussman) Arrowsmith. “Even though I had amazing support from my family and friends … I still felt alone. My friends were getting married and I was getting chemotherapy. For me, meeting other young women facing cancer made all the difference. I hope that this retreat brings the survivors the same feeling of peace, camaraderie and strength that it did for me.”

Deer Run Lodge - Site of the WRFTC Young Survivors Retreat

The Young Survivors Retreat will be held September 23-25, 2011, at the Deer Run Retreat Center located outside of Nashville, TN (3845 Perkins Road Thompson’s Station, TN 37179). The weekend-long retreat will give attendees the opportunity to connect with other young survivors, share their stories and discuss age-related challenges surrounded by Deer Run’s beautiful, serene setting. The weekend activities will include sessions on art, relaxation, nutrition, fertility, relationships, and beauty tips.
